Detail

Effective Resettlement is a one day course designed to help support workers focus on the soft skills behind resettlement. Instead of exploring the different types of tenure available across your area (your workers should know that) the course explore how resettlement a specialist work which differs from normal key work in the way it is by nature time limited - an intervention in which a support worker must prioritise those actions which will have the greatest impact in a period of weeks or months.

The course understands the conflicting pressures support workers are under to move someone on fast whilst also ensuring that it is brings positive outcomes; and  allows support workers to discuss the difficulties they have helping clients prepare for the real world when living in an environment which is by definition specialist and supported.

The course believes that in order to effectively resettle clients a support worker must be able to consistently identify when someone is ready to move on(or not move on), understand why they may be resistant to change, prioritise support needs and build relationships with external providers to help in care planning.

By the end of the course learners will be able to:

• Identify clients resistance to change and move on

• Discuss a range of assertive techniques which could help clients engage in their own move on planning

• Explain the current housing market to clients in a way which they understand and seeks to focus their aspiration

• Prioritise clients support needs by identifying the difference between a symptom and cause of a specific problem

• Apply a range of planning tools (inc fish bone diagrams) to help a client help co-ordinate their own housing related support package
