Detail

In 2007 Supporting People published a new outcomes framework for supported accommodation services. The new guidance signalled how the quality of key work should not be measured through outcomes, the changes made in clients, rather than outputs, the things that support workers have done.

Since the advent of the new framework a wide range of soft outcomes monitoring tools have been designed to help services measure their “value added”. The most popular of these being the Outcomes Star

This course is designed specifically for organisations looking to embark on an outcomes focused approach. It explores the skills necessary for effective key working whilst also evaluates the breadth of support planning materials being used across the sector.

Rather than advocate a particular model or framework of assessment IYM is happy to incorporate guidance on the completion of your paperwork as part of this course. Time can be made available to evaluate your current paperwork with staff and give feedback to management.

By the end of the days training support workers will be able to:

• Reflect on what makes a good support worker

• Describe the importance of an outcome focused approach to key work

• Evaluate a wide range of support planning materials designed to help assess need and set goals

• Practice effective interview skills

• Identify the information and skills necessary for accurate risk assessment

• Identify the impact good professional boundaries can have on the support workers relationship with a client

• Use a number of practical tools to encourage clients to engage in their own support planning

"A thought provoking course which helped us evaluate the wide range of outcomes tools on the market. It helped out staff understand that outcomes measures were measuring the good work they were doing rather than give them more work to do"

Mike Nash, Team Leader, Stevenage Haven
