If someone is drinking too much, they may enter a detox (detoxification) programme. Unless the addiction is very serious, detox can be done at homewith some medicine. If it is very serious, the detox may be done in a hospital so that any big problems that come out of stopping drinking suddenly can be seen to. These sorts of problems might include fits or seeing things that are not there.

Your G.P. (doctor) can prescribe detox medicines and send you to special alcohol addiction services. Find a local G.P. here: http://www.nhs.uk/servicedirectories/pages/servicesearch.aspx?ServiceType=GP
